While learning about community helpers and heroes is in the kindergarten curriculum, Frenship teachers believe it is important for the students to be able to recognize those that serve and protect them, if they are ever in need of their assistance.
Teachers coordinate visits from these community helpers to help students put faces to lessons. The students love getting to meet some of the community helpers and enjoy these activities because it allows the students to learn hands on and apply to real world situations.
As a part of these activities, students at Willow Bend got to meet local fire fighters. The students love getting to see real life community heroes and interact with them and ask questions.
“It’s important for our students to be able to meet real community helpers so that when they come across these individuals, they know they are here to help them,” said Katie Wertman, kindergarten teacher at Willow Bend.
